Theme for My Blog

I was thinking about how I felt the first day of classes here at USF. I found it really hard for me to adjust the first week. No matter how many people tried to help me figure out my way, I still had to experience everything on my own. Coming into the fourth week of classes, I have had some crazy experiences so far and I feel that I should blog about them so that I can try to relate to other freshmen going through the same things. Every week I will blog about my experiences at USF and try to find articles and other resources that might make my readers' experiences better!
One of the biggest decisions I made this semester was to join a sorority. A sorority you say? Ya, a sorority. Before any of you make rash conclusions, I actually did my research before I jumped into it. I am  Muslim girl who wears the hijab (head cover) so I was a little skeptical at first. Sororities are not filled with girls who love to party and drink but instead have a wonderful sisterhood and are so welcoming. They dedicate a great deal of their time to their national philanthropies and really emphasize doing what they can for the better. Recruitment week was tough but I was invited to join Chi Omega and accepted with open arms. So now I am  a Chi O girl! All of my sisters are super nice and truly love me for who I am. I spend a lot of time in the house and they do what ever they can to help me with homework. Chi Omega girls are beautiful and amazing so if you see one, SHOW HER SOME LOVE!!! If you ask me, joining a sorority has really boosted my confidence and they have become my family away from home. So I say go through recruitment and see if it's the right thing for you and you never know, you just might like it!

  1. I remember the first day of classes too! I was very excited but I the same time I was scared because I didn't know what to except from the new professors.
That's really exciting that you joined a sorority! I wanted to do join but I wasn't able because I was not ready and I had gone home for labor day weekend. I do plan on joining one next fall though. I wish you luck with your sisters and hope you have a blast! hey who knows maybe ill be seeing you next fall during recruitment week.

  2. I also choose to write about my freshman year in college because I believe there will be a lot to talk about in this topic especially since most of us are freshman. I already see that we have somethings in common because I was also nervous the first day of classes and I would like to join a sorority soon too.

  3. College is intimidating at times. Sometimes I feel as if its this impossible task. Thats only because I was looking at it as a big picture and getting overwhelmed. I have noticed a gradual change with time. The more time goes by, the more comfortable I'm becoming here at USF.

  4. First week of college was a little frustrating, but it was such a good experience. Like you said, it is definitely better to take your own route so you can learn from experience. Sometimes, it's best when you don't know a lot of other people, that way you can interact and form new relationships. After all, isn't that what part of this experience is about? I think that it is so awesome that you joined a sorority, and I am definitely looking in to doing that next fall. I agree, that sorority and fraternity life is often stereotyped into something completely different than it really is. A lot of my friends say they don't want to "buy friendship" but thats not at all true. Hopefully, I can look into some different groups and see if that is something I would want to be a part of! Sounds like a lot of fun, and I am glad to hear you are enjoying it! :)

  5. The first day of school was definitely a little frightening to me, but by the end of the first week I felt more comfortable and was just glad that I didn’t really get lost. Now, I am so glad that I decided to attend USF because I love it! That is so cool that you decided to join a sorority, it sounds like a lot of fun!
